Air Source Heat Pumps are a form of heating which extracts warmth from the air, even when it is very cold outside and uses this warmth to heat your home and provide you with hot water.
For homes that are not connected to the gas network, Air Source Heat Pumps can be a very efficient form of heating saving up to 40% on energy bills as compared to heating your home with oil or electricity.*
Durham County Council have partnered with Pacifica Group, 0800 Repair and the Warm Homes Fund (WHF) to create a scheme to offer eligible residents who are not connected to the gas network a free fully installed central heating system.

What are Air Source Heat Pumps?
Air source heat pumps serve as an alternative way to heat your home and provide hot water. An air source heat pump is usually placed outdoors at the side or back of a property. It takes heat from the air and boosts it to a higher temperature using a heat pump. The pump needs electricity to run, but it will use less electrical energy than the heat it produces. There are two main types of air source heat pumps: air-to-water and air-to-air. The system we are offering you is an air-to-water system. An air source heat pump works a bit like a refrigerator in reverse. The process consists of an evaporator, a compressor and a condenser. Air-to-water heat pumps take heat from the outside air and feed it into your wet central heating system. As the heat produced is cooler than that from a conventional boiler, larger radiators are installed to compensate.
Benefits and savings
There are several benefits to installing Air Source Heat Pumps in your home.
By replacing existing ‘off gas’ heating like solid fuel, electric or bottled LPG - with new renewable technology like Air Source Heat Pumps, there are immediate cost savings for home owners and tenants, with typical savings expected to be in the range of 40%* and potentially more.
This is because renewable heating like this is very clean and efficient to run, and over a year can expect to run at more than 3 times the efficiency of alternative heating systems like oil, electric or solid fuel systems.
All Daikin Heat Pumps provided to Durham residents through this project come with a fantastic 7 year parts and labour warranty.
An annual service, which is required to maintain the warranty is included free with your heat pump installation.
You can set your room temperature with an air source heat pump in exactly the same way as gas central heating and if you stick to the temperature setting of 21° you will enjoy maximum cost savings.
The fitting of your air source heat pump is straight forward and typically only takes one day of disruption with commissioning and testing of the system on day two.
By switching to a renewable heating system you will also be doing your bit for the environment and helping Durham County Council achieve its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
Warranties and Servicing
Your air source heat pump comes with a 7 year parts and labour warranty so if anything goes wrong with your heating system it will be repaired free of charge.
It is a requirement of the 7 year warranty that you have your heating system serviced annually, as part of this project we will be paying for the 7 year service costs of your heating system. You will be contacted by the service contractors before the service is due to make a convenient appointment.
